Somnia Welcomes Masks of the Void, a Telekinetic Roguelite Adventure

Masks of the Void, a roguelite action-RPG by RolldBox Games, is officially coming to Somnia with the support of Uprising Labs. In Masks of the Void, players take on the role of Iret, a girl with a mysterious power, tasked with holding back the creeping threat of the Neverending Night.
On Somnia, the game finds a home built for high-performance, real-time gameplay. With 1 million transactions per second, sub-second finality, and sub-cent fees, Somnia provides the technical foundation necessary to support on-chain experiences at scale.
A New Take on Player Power
Masks of the Void gives players control over the world itself. Through telekinetic abilities, you can use anything in the environment to your advantage, from discarded objects to walls and debris. As you explore surreal realms and fight back against evil forces, you accumulate powers and artifacts in true roguelite fashion. But progression comes at a cost. The more power you take on, the more the world reacts. Environments become unstable, enemies evolve, and even the fabric of reality begins to shift around you.
The game features three core playstyles, allowing players to build their character path based on random objects and mask-based upgrades. Every run offers new combinations and fresh challenges. No two journeys are the same, and no decision is without consequence.
Coming Very Soon!
You’ll be able to play Masks of the Void on the Somnia Testnet very soon! Players will be able to jump in instantly via WebGL with no downloads required, making it accessible on any device with a browser. As players race up global leaderboards for real rewards or team up in PvE missions, every action is recorded immutably through Uprising Labs’ Gamers L.A.B., the first fully on-chain records layer deployed on Somnia.
This integration captures logins, sessions, pickups, kills, and more in a composable format. It sets a new standard for transparent, player-owned game data.
Players can earn NFTs, game passes, Steam keys, whitelist spots, ecosystem tokens, and other prizes redeemable throughout Uprising Labs, the Dream Catalyst ecosystem, and the wider Somnia network. This will be one of the first major games to go live on the Somnia, so make sure you follow the game on X and join the Discord!
The Power of On-Chain Gaming
Building on-chain games has historically been difficult and expensive due to the technical constraints of legacy blockchains, but Somnia is changing the game. With over 1 million transactions per second, sub-second finality, and sub-cent fees, developers can now integrate real-time blockchain features without compromising on performance or user experience. This dramatically reduces the cost of sponsoring gas fees, which is essential for Web3 games that want to offer seamless, frictionless onboarding.
Somnia also unlocks deeper economic and social layers within games. Fully on-chain items, currencies, and achievements allow for open, player-driven economies where value is earned, traded, and redefined over time. Items can be borrowed, combined, or sold across titles, creating a level of interoperability and asset liquidity that AAA games on centralized platforms simply can’t support.
The transparency and composability of on-chain systems also open the door to entirely new game mechanics. Developers can introduce prediction markets tied directly to gameplay. Streamers can stake tokens on their own performance, challenge viewers to bet on the outcome of matches, or set high-stakes goals like completing rare achievements. These systems create new engagement loops and revenue streams while keeping everything verifiable and trustless.
By removing limitations and enabling new forms of interaction, Somnia gives developers the infrastructure to build richer, more dynamic games. Developers also have the freedom to decide exactly how they want to implement their ideas, from hybrid “Web2.5” models to fully on-chain Web3 experiences.
A Growing Game Lineup
Masks of the Void will join a growing lineup of great games on Somnia, including the battle royale Maelstrom and Dream Catalyst titles like Mullet Cop: Mall Sim, Netherak Demons, and Dark Table.
These games highlight the creative potential of Somnia’s high performance infrastructure, using high-speed, low-cost transactions to power dynamic gameplay, player-owned assets, and real-time economies. From chaotic mall simulations to dark fantasy combat and strategic card battles, each title showcases how Somnia enables immersive, scalable experiences that simply aren’t possible on legacy chains.
Mullet Cop: Mall Sim brings the retro-futurist absurdity of the cult comic to life as a fully on-chain sandbox experience. Players step into the role of Fred “the Mulletcop” in a bizarre megamall where they can design floorplans, manage NPC behavior, or let chaos reign with a dynamic violence slider.
Netherak Demons dives into a dark fantasy world where players explore cursed lands, harvest rare resources, and customize their demons through brutal tactical combat. With an economy built around fear, pain, and tears, and gear that can be earned, traded, or forged on-chain, Netherak brings a new level of immersion and depth to action RPGs.
Dark Table CCG reimagines competitive card games with strategic four-player free-for-alls, dynamic alliances, and deep customization. The game removes traditional randomness with instant deck-building using Deck Tokens, allowing players to focus on theorycrafting, bluffing, and outmaneuvering their opponents across animated, on-chain playmats. This eliminates the dreaded lootboxes, which forces players to grind for hours on end or spend lots of money just to acquire one card.
Maelstrom is a fast-paced, tactical naval combat game set in a dark fantasy world where players command monstrous ships and battle for dominance on treacherous seas. Combining high-stakes strategy with real-time action, the game challenges players to outmaneuver enemies, harness powerful abilities, and survive a constantly shifting battlefield shaped by both player decisions and environmental hazards. Now enhanced with Web3 features via Somnia’s high-performance blockchain, Maelstrom introduces new gameplay layers without sacrificing its core mechanics. Players can earn rewards, collect unique on-chain items, and participate in an evolving economy that ties progression to true digital ownership
These titles are just the beginning. With Masks of the Void up next, the Somnia gaming universe is only getting stranger, more creative, and more expansive, but there’s still so much more to come!

About Somnia
Somnia is the fastest and most cost-effective EVM Layer-1 blockchain, capable of processing over 1 million transactions per second (tps) with sub-second finality. Somnia’s new multi-stream consensus technology achieves sub-second block certainty and higher transaction throughput. Sequential execution and compression algorithms effectively handle high-density scenarios, increasing the amount of data transferred between nodes by 10-20x. The custom database IceDB achieves 15-100 nanosecond read/write times, reducing transaction costs to less than a penny. This makes Somnia an ideal platform for building large-scale, real-time applications in games, social, metaverse, finance, and other fields, serving millions of users, all on-chain, making EVM more efficient than ever before.
