QRusader Brings Procedural, QR-Generated Gaming to Somnia

Somnia is gearing up to go on an adventure with QRusader, an innovative new mobile Roguelite Hopper that will be joining the ecosystem through the Dream Catalyst accelerator. This bold new addition to the Somnia lineup was developed with a focus on accessibility, endless replayability, and player-driven worlds.
In QRusader, players step into the boots of a lost knight who travels through an infinite loop of dungeons searching for loot and prizes. QRusader is incredibly unique because every level is procedurally generated by scanning real-world QR codes. Each code creates unique dungeon layouts, enemy types, visual themes, and difficulty settings. The more complex the QR code, the more challenging the adventure becomes. No two runs are ever the same in QRusader, so you never know what to expect!
Inspired by timeless mobile classics like Crossy Road, QRusader brings a familiar pick-up-and-play experience, but elevates it with infinite scalability and procedural generation.
Real-World Scavenger Hunt and Social Elements
QRusader’s unique level design encourages players to go out and search for different QR codes in the real world, which opens up a new element of gameplay, similar to what we saw several years ago with hits like Pokemon GO. This is a very interesting way of blending the game world with real world activities.
If players get hooked on the game, they could end up becoming more active and leaving the house more often than they otherwise would, to search for new QR codes. Traveling around won’t be an option for everyone, but this game could also offer new opportunities to be social and make friends, as there will likely be communities that form around sharing QR codes and trading levels.
Built for Everyone
QRusader has been designed to run smoothly across a wide range of devices, ensuring broad accessibility for players around the world. The game will launch as a free-to-play title on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, welcoming a global audience into its vibrant, ever-changing dungeons.
By leveraging Somnia’s blockchain, which supports over 1 million transactions per second, sub-second finality, and sub-cent transaction fees, QRusader will benefit from a fast and scalable Web3 infrastructure. The Somnia blockchain ensures that games like QRusader can incorporate Web3 features efficiently, supporting innovation and unlocking new possibilities for gameplay and progression.
Cosmetics, Power-Ups, and Player Progression
QRusader will offer cosmetic upgrades and power-ups through an in-game store, giving players new ways to customize their characters and enhance their runs. Players can earn in-game coins by completing levels and challenges, but for those who want to unlock items more quickly or tackle tougher dungeons, a variety of coin packs will be available through an in-game store.
The store will feature:
- Character skins with unique visual styles and gameplay boosts, like movement speed increases.
- Cosmetic items like shields, weapons, and armor.
- A range of coin packs priced to suit all play styles and progression speeds.
This approach ensures that QRusader remains accessible and free-to-play, while giving players meaningful options to personalize their experience and overcome especially challenging content.
Dream Catalyst: A Game Changer
QRusader is entering the Somnia ecosystem through Dream Catalyst, a six-month accelerator program backed by a $10 million grant pool. Dream Catalyst is a combined effort between Somnia and the Web3 game publisher Uprising Labs, designed to help game studios build and scale fully on-chain games. The program offers funding, expert mentorship, technical resources, go-to-market support, and much more.
Alongside the accelerator, the Dream Catalyst Web3 Game Club invites aspiring developers and gamers to explore blockchain gaming through rewards, early playtests, and community-building.
Three games have already been announced for Dream Catalyst acceleration, including Netherak Demons, Mullet Cop: Mall Sim, and Dark Table CCG.
During an X Space where he revealed new details about the upcoming release of Dark Table CCG, the game’s founder Kyle said that “Dream Catalyst has been a total game changer and it’s only been about a month.”
“I’m gonna have to show a side by side, once we get to open beta, of the before and after. Before Dream Catalyst, after Dream Catalyst for the game. Because the difference is massive. I mean UI lighting, card art, you know, dedicated servers. That’s just game side improvements coming from Dream Catalyst. It’s massive polish. I mean it’s going to feel like a much better game overall,” he added.
He went on to discuss the help offered by Dream Catalyst, saying that, “Just on the marketing, funding support, tooling support the expertise that we can leverage from Dream Catalyst, from both Uprising and Somnia. It’s huge for helping us get that game to market, helping with our social media, and giving us experience that we don’t have in those areas as we were, you know, mainly focused on games. So it’s, it is a massive help and we really did not know how much support we were going to get going into this because I’m not going to name names but you’ll see a lot of other chains claim that they are an accelerator or that they help those games out with publishing or go to market or something and then you’ll see those games and what do they get from that chain? They get like a post share on X or something and it’s like, well that didn’t really help them.”
Somnia’s Dream Catalyst titles, including QRusader, are now in their final stages of development, with many set to release in the following weeks and months.
To stay connected with all the games going live on Somnia, join us every Thursday at 12 PM EST for our live Space on X.
